ARIA-nominated Zela Margossian Quintet is an ethno-jazz band based in Sydney, performing original works and arrangements carrying influences from Armenian traditional music. Comprised of talented multicultural musicians from Sydney, Zela Margossian Quintet’s work is described as ‘intuitive, sophisticated and dazzling’.
"This quintet was Zela Margossian's first shot at assembling a band, just as the repertoire consists of her first forays as a composer. Yes, she already had significant experience as a classical pianist, but assembling a band is an art in itself, and in jazz – as with string quartets – a high art. The components parts are conceptually aligned and aesthetically complementary (…)the musical personalities of five people who merge into a harmonious whole as only the best bands do."
